HP's LaserJet Pro range is one of the most widely recognised laser printer lines in Australia, built for small businesses and home offices that need reliable, professional-quality output at a manageable running cost.
Ink Depot stocks the current HP LaserJet Pro 4000-series in both mono and colour, covering print-only and multifunction models. All models are in stock with Australia-wide delivery and free shipping on orders over $99.
Mono Laser
HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdn ($489.81): A4 mono laser multifunction printer with print, scan, copy, and fax. Wired Ethernet and USB, no wireless on the fdn model.
Auto duplex printing and a 40-page ADF for scanning multi-page documents. Prints at up to 42ppm, making it one of the faster mono laser MFPs in its class.
Uses HP 148A (W1480A, 3,000 pages) or 148X (W1480X, 9,500 pages) high-yield black toner. The 148X is significantly more economical per page and is the better ongoing consumable choice for regular users.
Colour Laser
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301dw ($705.43): A4 colour laser multifunction with print, scan, copy, and wireless (Wi-Fi + Ethernet). Auto duplex printing. No fax.
Prints at up to 33ppm in colour, with a 50-page ADF for scanning multi-page documents.
Uses HP 210A (W2100A, 2,000 pages black, 1,800 pages colour) or 210X (W2100X, 7,500 pages black, 5,500 pages colour) high-yield toner.
The 4301dw is the wireless, no-fax variant of the 4301 series.
HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw ($760.00): Identical to the 4301dw with the addition of built-in fax (the "f" in fdw).
Same print speed, same toner (210A/210X), same wireless and Ethernet connectivity.
Choose the 4301dw if you don't need fax; choose the 4301fdw if you do. The $54.57 price difference is modest for a feature that's difficult to retrofit.
Which Model Should You Choose?
Need mono only: The 4101fdn is the standout : 42ppm, wired Ethernet, ADF, and generous toner yields on the 148X cartridge. The wired-only connectivity suits a fixed office desk or network printing environment. If wireless is essential, this model isn't the right fit.
Need colour with wireless: Both 4301 models are strong. The 4301dw is the right choice for offices that handle fax through email or a separate device. The 4301fdw makes sense if fax is still part of the workflow.
Running costs: The HP 210X high-yield toner for the 4301 series (7,500 pages black, 5,500 pages colour) brings the cost per page down significantly compared to the 210A standard cartridge.
For any office printing in regular volume, using the 210X is the more economical approach. Similarly, the 148X for the 4101fdn yields 9,500 pages versus 3,000 for the 148A : a substantial difference for a busy office.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What's the difference between the HP 4301dw and 4301fdw?
The only difference is fax. The 4301fdw ($760.00) includes a built-in fax modem; the 4301dw ($705.43) does not.
Every other specification : print speed, toner, ADF, wireless, Ethernet, auto duplex : is identical.
If your office uses fax at all, the 4301fdw is worth the small price premium. If you handle all documents digitally, the 4301dw is sufficient.
2. What toner does the HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdn use?
The 4101fdn uses HP 148A (W1480A) standard-yield black toner at approximately 3,000 pages, or HP 148X (W1480X) high-yield at approximately 9,500 pages.
For regular office use, the 148X delivers a much lower cost per page and is the better ongoing choice.
Note that the 148-series is mono only : the 4101fdn is a monochrome printer and does not use colour toner.
3. Does the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4301fdw support wireless printing?
Yes, the 4301fdw supports dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz and 5GHz) as well as wired Gigabit Ethernet and USB.
It also supports Wi-Fi Direct for printing directly from a mobile device without a network connection.
AirPrint and HP Smart App compatibility allow printing from iOS and Android devices.
4. Will using compatible toner void my HP printer warranty?
Not automatically. Under Australian Consumer Law, HP cannot void a warranty claim simply because a compatible toner cartridge was used : they would need to demonstrate the compatible cartridge directly caused the fault.
Using a compatible 210A or 148A equivalent for standard office printing carries no automatic warranty risk.
