Choosing the right photo paper
You don’t have to depend on photographers or photo studios to print out your snaps anymore. These days, high quality inkjet printers combined with excellent printer paper can produce high quality, professional looking photographs. Consider the following factors before buying your printer paper: :
Size : Our photo papers come in a range of sizes - ranging from standard photo sizes of 4 x 6 inches (10 x 15 cm) or 5 x 7 inches (13 x 18cm) up to A2, A3 or A4.
Weight : Printer paper with a greater weight is generally of better quality, and is suited for photos, greeting cards or invitations. Make sure you check the maximum paper weight recommended for your printer.
Paper finish : An important aspect of photo paper is its finish - which can vary in coating and texture. Choose from matte, glossy, or lustre (semi-gloss) type of printer paper:
- Matte paper is similar to regular paper and can come with different textures. Matte paper absorbs more ink than glossy paper which can affect the quality of the photo. Fingerprints which result from handling will not appear as prominently on matte paper.
- Glossy paper has a very smooth and attractive finish and displays the colours more vibrantly and offers very crisp and sharp photos.
- Lustre paper is known by different names like pearl, satin or silk, and the surface is intermediate between matte and glossy. As a result, it is a great choice for getting the best of matte and glossy paper - vibrant colours and excellent details in black-and-white snaps. Not surprisingly, this is a popular choice for many photographers!
Choosing paper specific to printer
To get optimum printing results, including colours that will not fade, it is recommended that you use the printer paper and inks recommended by the manufacturer for the brand and model of the printer you own. Generally, printers come with built-in specifications that ensure that the image you choose to print exactly matches the printout. Please note cutting paper into certain sizes instead of buying the right size can cause printer jams.
