Expected page output and replacement cycles
Every standard or compatible LC73 cartridge provides a manufacturer-rated yield of 600 pages based on the international ISO/IEC 24711 testing standard. Real-world output depends on document text density and the frequency of standard automated printhead maintenance cycles.

What to know about compatible cartridges
Opting for third-party alternatives reduces upfront costs by up to 75% compared to original cartridges. Under Australian Consumer Law, using compatible cartridges does not void your printer warranty. These third-party options feature identical physical tracking chips to maintain correct ink level warnings on your printer control panel. Choosing the right cartridge setup
Text-heavy users require more frequent replacements of LC73BK black, making multi-packs or compatible options the most economical choice. Pro Tip
Leaving these Brother printers switched on at the wall prevents them from running an aggressive, deep-cleaning ink flush every time they power up from a hard reset. Keeping the printer in sleep mode consumes minimal electricity but saves significant volumes of colour ink from being pumped straight into the internal waste pad during startups.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install an LC73 cartridge if my printer currently uses LC71?
No, Brother printers that use LC73 are physically different from those that accept LC71 cartridges, and the internal positioning chips will not register if mixed across unsupported models.
Why does my colour ink drop when I only print black text?
These printers use a tiny volume of cyan, magenta, and yellow ink during standard printhead maintenance cycles to keep the microscopic nozzles lubricated and prevent permanent heat damage.
What happens if one colour cartridge runs out completely?
The printer will lock out all printing functions, including monochrome text printing, until the empty colour cartridge is replaced, which safeguards the integrated printhead from firing dry and burning out.
