Frequently Asked Questions
Do the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600, 8600 Plus, and 8600 Premium use the same ink cartridges?
Yes, all models within the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 series share identical cartridge engineering and fit the same 950, 950XL, and 951XL ink supplies.
Can I mix standard HP 950 and high-yield HP 950XL or 951XL cartridges?
Yes, you can install a high-yield 950XL (CN045AA) black cartridge alongside standard or XL colour cartridges without issue. The printer recognises each cartridge independently.
What is the difference between HP 950 and 950XL black cartridges?
Both cartridges share identical physical dimensions and slot into the same print head housing. The 950XL (CN045AA) holds double the ink volume of standard 950 cartridges, delivering a significantly lower cost per page.
Do individual 951XL colour cartridges need to be replaced all at once?
No, the OfficeJet Pro 8600 uses an individual four-cartridge ink system. You only need to replace the specific colour-such as 951XL Cyan (CN046AA)-that has run out, minimising wasted ink.
