HP Deskjet 9600 Ink Cartridges
Shop ink cartridges for your HP Deskjet 9600, which uses the HP 56 and 57 ink cartridge series. The HP Deskjet 9600 is a versatile wide-format A3 inkjet printer designed for printing large-scale spreadsheets, promotional posters, and technical diagrams. Ink Depot has been supplying reliable consumables for this printer since Jul 2007. Replacing a standard 56 (C6656AA) black cartridge or 57 (C6657AA) colour cartridge individually helps manage ink expenses effectively, as monochrome document printing depletes black ink much faster than colour graphics work. Our 4.8 Google rating reflects a long-standing track record of premium cartridge performance.
Expected page output and replacement cycles
Yields for this cartridge system are evaluated according to ISO/IEC standard testing for inkjet consumables. The HP 56 (C6656AA) black cartridge produces up to 450 pages, whereas the HP 57 (C6657AA) tri-colour cartridge provides approximately 400 pages based on 5% page coverage.
| Cartridge Number | Type | Colour | Page Yield | Cost Per Page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 56 | Standard | Black | 450 | $0.038 |
| 57 | Standard | Colour | 400 | $0.072 |
Cost Per Page = Total Cartridge Price ÷ Page Yield (at 5% coverage). Prices based on Compatible cartridges.
What to know about compatible cartridges

Key consideration before ordering
Because the HP 57 (C6657AA) is a tri-colour cartridge with an integrated printhead, running out of just one colour (cyan, magenta, or yellow) requires replacing the whole unit, so consolidating routine text prints to black ink extends colour life significantly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I print with only the HP 56 black cartridge installed in the Deskjet 9600?
Yes, the HP Deskjet 9600 supports a single-cartridge print mode, allowing you to print basic text documents using only the HP 56 (C6656AA) black cartridge if the HP 57 (C6657AA) colour cartridge is depleted or missing.
How does an integrated printhead cartridge benefit the HP Deskjet 9600?
Both the 56 (C6656AA) and 57 (C6657AA) cartridges feature built-in printheads. Replacing the cartridge installs a fresh printhead every time, maintaining crisp line print quality and preventing permanent nozzle clogs on wide-format prints.
Why does the HP 57 tri-colour cartridge deplete faster when printing graphics?
The HP 57 (C6657AA) combines cyan, magenta, and yellow ink in three separate internal chambers. If a print job relies heavily on one hue, that single chamber exhausts first, which prompts the printer to register the cartridge as empty.
