Canon PG 645, PG 645XL, CL 646 & CL 646XL Ink Cartridges
Canon PG-645 black and CL-646 colour ink cartridges come in standard and higher-yield XL sizes. Genuine Canon cartridges cover both sizes, while compatible options are XL only, offering a lower-cost alternative for regular printing. Black-and-colour combination packs supply both cartridges in one order. The CL-646 holds cyan, magenta and yellow in one cartridge, so the whole unit is replaced at once. Our 4.8 Google Star rating shows that our customers consistently receive high-quality cartridges backed by reliable performance.

What to know about compatible PG-645XL and CL-646XL cartridges
Compatible cartridges in this series are available only in the XL size: PG-645XL black, CL-646XL colour and a PG-645XL/CL-646XL combination pack. The standard 180-page PG-645 and CL-646 are supplied as genuine Canon cartridges only. Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself remove your rights under Australian Consumer Law. However, damage caused by a faulty cartridge may not be covered by the printer manufacturer's warranty. For a closer look at the differences, read our guide to genuine vs compatible cartridges.

Pro Tip
When ordering a combination pack, check the codes in the pack title. PG-645/CL-646 packs contain the standard-size cartridges, while PG-645XL/CL-646XL packs contain the XL cartridges. Genuine packs come in both sizes, but the compatible combination pack is XL only.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I switch to PG-645XL if I previously used a standard PG-645?
Yes. The PG-645XL is made for the same PIXMA printers and fits the same black cartridge slot. The difference is capacity: the genuine PG-645XL is rated at 400 pages compared with 180 pages for the standard PG-645. The same applies to the CL-646XL and CL-646.
Can I use a compatible PG-645XL black with a genuine CL-646 colour cartridge?
Yes. The black and colour cartridges are bought separately, so you can choose genuine or compatible for each one. Keep in mind that compatible cartridges in this series come in the XL size only, so a standard-size CL-646 will be genuine.
Why might a CL-646 colour cartridge print fewer pages than its rated yield?
Canon's ISO/IEC 24711 yields are based on standard test pages. Photos, borderless prints and pages with large coloured areas use far more ink than those test pages, so real output will be lower. Because cyan, magenta and yellow share one CL-646 cartridge, colour-heavy printing draws on that single unit.
Is PG-645 the same as PG645, and CL-646 the same as CL646?
Yes. PG-645 and PG645 refer to the same Canon black cartridge, and CL-646 and CL646 refer to the same colour cartridge. The same applies to PG-645XL / PG645XL and CL-646XL / CL646XL. The hyphen is only a formatting difference, and you may also see them written with a space, such as PG 645.
