Expected Page Output and Replacement Cycles
Page yields for Brother toner cartridges are measured using the ISO/IEC 19752 standard for monochrome printing at five percent page coverage. High-volume document workflows benefit significantly from larger capacity options, as higher page yields deliver lower running costs per printed page over time.
| Cartridge Number | Type | Colour | Page Yield | Cost Per Page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TN2530 | Standard | Black | 1,200 | $0.090 |
| TN2530XL | High Yield | Black | 3,000 | $0.055 |
| TN2530XXL | Extra High Yield | Black | 5,000 | $0.043 |
Cost Per Page = Total Cartridge Price ÷ Page Yield (at 5% coverage). Prices based on Genuine cartridges.
Choosing Between Genuine and Compatible Options
Under Australian Consumer Law, using compatible cartridges does not void your printer warranty. Third-party TN2530XL cartridges deliver comparable print resolution and output performance to original manufacturer supplies while providing significant cost savings. Drum Units and Consumable Life
The Brother HL-L2460DWXL uses a two-piece consumable system separating the toner cartridge from the DR2530 drum unit. Experience Tip: The DR2530 drum unit has a factory yield rating of 15,000 pages and typically outlasts several toner replacements before requiring renewal.

Pro Tip
Pro Tip: Do not replace your DR2530 drum unit every time your toner runs low; the drum unit has a 15,000-page lifespan and operates independently of the TN2530 toner cartridge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the DR2530 drum unit required when buying a new TN2530 toner cartridge?
No. The TN2530 toner cartridge and DR2530 drum unit are independent components. The toner cartridge holds the black powder and needs frequent replacement, whereas the drum unit lasts up to 15,000 pages and only requires replacement periodically when page counts are reached.
Can I install a high-yield TN2530XXL cartridge if my printer originally came with a standard TN2530?
Yes. The TN2530, TN2530XL, and TN2530XXL cartridges share identical physical outer dimensions and fit directly into the same printer slot, though the XL and XXL versions hold significantly more toner for longer print life.
Why does my actual page output differ from the rated ISO page yield?
Rated yields for TN2530 series cartridges are calculated based on standard 5% coverage on A4 paper. If you routinely print dense text documents, graphics, or pages with high ink coverage, actual yield per cartridge will be lower than the rated ISO specification.
