Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use photo black or photo colour cartridges in the Canon S520 for standard text documents?
The Canon S520 relies on the high-capacity BCI-3eBK cartridge specifically formulated for text and line graphics. Substituting standard photo ink series cartridges without the proper printhead receiver will not work, as the BCI-3eBK has a distinct physical cartridge footprint designed exclusively for monochrome text throughput.
What is the shelf life of compatible BCI-3eBK ink cartridges if stored as spares?
Unopened compatible BCI-3eBK cartridges maintain optimal ink viscosity for up to 24 months when kept in their original sealed packaging away from direct sunlight and extreme thermal conditions.
Why does the BCI-3eBK cartridge yield vary between text documents and graphic-heavy pages?
Rated page yields reflect standardized 5% page coverage typical of standard letters. Pages containing heavy bolding, logos, or full-page charts consume significantly more ink per sheet, reducing total page output accordingly.
