Pro Tip for MX895 Consumables
Pay attention to which black ink you need to replace: PGI-525BK is a large pigment black tank dedicated strictly to text printing on plain paper, whereas CLI-526BK is a small dye black cartridge used exclusively for graphics and photo printing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the printer use two different black cartridges?
The PGI-525BK contains pigment-based ink designed for sharp, water-resistant text printing on plain paper, while the CLI-526BK contains dye-based ink intended for photo paper and graphical output.
Can I install a CLI-526BK cartridge into the PGI-525BK slot?
No, the PGI-525BK and CLI-526BK cartridges have completely different physical dimensions and chip keying, preventing them from being inserted into the wrong slot.
Why do CLI-526 colour cartridges deplete when printing mostly black text?
The printer occasionally uses small amounts of dye colour ink during automatic maintenance cycles to keep the printhead nozzles clear and prevent clogging.
