Expected page output and replacement cycles
Page yields for Canon cartridges are measured using ISO/IEC 24711 standards for standard text documents and ISO/IEC 29102 for colour photographs. Pigment PGI-525BK text ink yields differ from CLI-526 colour cartridges, as page coverage varies heavily between office documents and image-rich prints.

Choosing between genuine and compatible options
Compatible cartridges provide a cost-effective alternative for daily home office printing without compromising print sharpness. Under Australian Consumer Law, using compatible cartridges does not void your printer warranty. Every compatible unit is backed by a money-back guarantee for complete confidence. Read our genuine vs compatible cartridge guide to evaluate which option suits your printing requirements.
Smart buying strategies and fast shipping
If your daily output consists primarily of multi-page invoices and letters, stock up on PGI-525BK black cartridges, as text documents consume pigment ink fastest. If you produce marketing flyers or photo graphics, bundled multipacks ensure balanced depletion across CLI-526 colour inks. Ordering compatible options backed by our money-back guarantee helps reduce ongoing costs. We dispatch orders fast from warehouses in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Free delivery applies on all orders over $99. Explore our complete range of Canon ink cartridges today or check our returns policy for total order reassurance.
Pro Tip
Because the PIXMA MX715 uses separate PGI-525BK pigment black for plain paper text and CLI-526BK photo black for photo media, double-check your media settings before printing. Selecting 'Plain Paper' forces the printer to use the higher-capacity PGI-525BK cartridge, preventing unnecessary depletion of your photo black ink.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the PIXMA MX715 require two different black cartridges?
The PGI-525BK is a pigment-based black formulated specifically for crisp, smudge-resistant text on plain paper, whereas the CLI-526BK is a photo black engineered to deliver deep tone gradations on glossy photo media.
Can I replace individual CLI-526 colour cartridges as they run out?
Yes, each CLI-526 colour cartridge operates independently. The printer signals when an individual colour is low, allowing you to replace only the depleted cartridge without discarding remaining ink in other cartridges.
Will switching between genuine and compatible CLI-526 cartridges disrupt print consistency?
High-quality compatible CLI-526 cartridges use ink formulations designed to match OEM print performance. You can install individual compatible cartridges alongside genuine Canon cartridges as they empty without causing print head clogging or shade shifts.
