Canon PIXMA MP780 Ink Cartridges
Shop ink cartridges for your Canon PIXMA MP780, which uses the Canon BCI-3e and BCI-6 ink cartridge series. The PIXMA MP780 is a reliable desktop all-in-one printer designed for office document handling and duplex printing. Ink Depot has been supplying compatible cartridges for this printer since Sep 2026. Replacing the high-capacity BCI-3eBK pigment cartridge keeps general text output sharp, while separate BCI-6 tanks handle photo graphics. Our 4.8 Google rating reflects a long-standing track record of premium cartridge performance.
Expected Page Output and Replacement Cycles
Page yields for BCI-3e and BCI-6 ink cartridges are calculated in accordance with ISO/IEC 24711 standard printing tests. Text-heavy printing depletes the high-capacity BCI-3eBK pigment black tank faster than the BCI-6 colour tanks, while graphics and image printing distribute ink across all colour tanks evenly.
| Cartridge Number | Type | Colour | Page Yield | Cost Per Page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BCI-6BK | Standard | Black | 280 | $0.026 |
| BCI-3eBK | Standard | Black | 500 | $0.016 |
| BCI-6C | Standard | Cyan | 100 | $0.072 |
| BCI-6M | Standard | Magenta | 100 | $0.072 |
| BCI-6Y | Standard | Yellow | 100 | $0.072 |
Cost Per Page = Total Cartridge Price ÷ Page Yield (at 5% coverage). Prices based on Compatible cartridges.

Pro Tip
The PIXMA MP780 uses two separate black tanks with different ink formulations; always ensure you buy BCI-3eBK for general text documents and BCI-6BK for photo printing to maintain optimal output quality on specialised papers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the Canon PIXMA MP780 require two different black ink cartridges?
The printer uses a dual-black ink system where the larger BCI-3eBK tank contains pigment ink specifically engineered for crisp, smudge-resistant text on plain paper. The smaller BCI-6BK tank uses photo black ink designed to blend with cyan, magenta, and yellow for photographic prints and glossy graphics.
Can I install a BCI-6BK cartridge in the BCI-3eBK slot?
No, BCI-3e and BCI-6 cartridges have distinct physical dimensions and slot fittings. The BCI-3eBK is broader to hold extra pigment ink for high-volume text printing, while BCI-6 slots are narrower to fit individual colour tanks.
What should I do if one colour runs out while printing full-colour graphics?
The PIXMA MP780 features individual tank replacement, meaning you only need to replace the single depleted colour cartridge (such as BCI-6C, BCI-6M, or BCI-6Y) rather than an entire multi-colour block, reducing wastage and lowering overall running costs.
