Canon imagePROGRAF iPF8400 iPF8400S Ink Cartridges
Your Canon imagePROGRAF iPF8400 and iPF8400S printers use the PFI-706 cartridge series. Ink Depot has been supplying reliable consumables for these printers since Jan 2017. These 44-inch large format graphics printers feature a 12-colour pigment ink setup designed for museum-grade fine art reproduction and photography. Monochrome print runs consume neutral tones like PFI-706GY and PFI-706PGY faster than primary shades. Our 4.8 Google rating proves it: we consistently supply premium cartridges backed by rock-solid reliability.
Expected Output and Usage Coverage
Large format 700ml ink tanks do not carry traditional page yield ratings because consumption depends entirely on media width, image density, and coverage area. Yield benchmarks for high-end graphic output adhere to ISO/IEC testing standards based on 5% page coverage across broad-gamut artwork.
Managing High-Volume Photographic Printing
Matching ink selection to media type prevents unnecessary ink wastage. If you produce gallery prints on matte rag, stock PFI-706MBK Matte Black to achieve maximum optical density. For satin or glossy media, keep PFI-706BK Black on hand. High-volume studios should monitor light shades like PFI-706PC Photo Cyan and PFI-706PM Photo Magenta, which deplete faster during detailed photographic runs. We ship genuine Canon ink cartridges directly from dispatch centres in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Free delivery applies on all orders over $99. Review our returns policy for full detail on product coverage.
Pro Tip
Gently agitating specialty pigment tanks like PFI-706R or PFI-706G prior to installation helps keep heavy pigment particles evenly suspended, ensuring precise chromatic consistency across long print runs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do the Canon imagePROGRAF iPF8400 and iPF8400S use the same ink cartridges?
Yes, both 44-inch large format printers use the same PFI-706 series 700ml ink tanks, ensuring complete interchangeability across print production environments.
What is the difference between PFI-706BK Black and PFI-706MBK Matte Black?
PFI-706MBK Matte Black is formulated specifically for absorbent fine art rag and matte papers to produce rich black levels without bleeding. PFI-706BK Black is designed for non-absorbent glossy and satin photo papers.
Why do light ink shades like Photo Cyan and Photo Magenta deplete faster?
Photo Cyan (PFI-706PC) and Photo Magenta (PFI-706PM) are heavily drawn upon to build smooth skin tones, light skies, and subtle color gradients, leading to higher usage in photographic work than primary Cyan or Magenta tanks.
Can individual PFI-706 ink tanks be replaced independently?
Yes, each of the 12 ink channels operates independently, allowing you to swap out individual depleted 700ml tanks without disturbing the remaining colours.
