Canon imagePROGRAF iPF6400SE Ink Cartridges
Your Canon imagePROGRAF iPF6400SE uses the PFI-106 ink cartridge series along with the PF-05 print head. Designed for vibrant commercial posters and display graphics, this 24-inch large format printer relies on dedicated PFI-106MBK Matte Black and PFI-106R Red cartridges alongside standard CMYK inks. Our 4.8 Google Star rating shows that our customers consistently receive high-quality cartridges backed by reliable performance. Ink Depot has supplied consumables for this printer since Nov 2016.
Expected Page Output and Ink Usage
Large-format graphics printing does not carry standard ISO page yield ratings because ink consumption depends heavily on image coverage, media profiles, and colour saturation. High-density poster work consumes PFI-106 inks differently than line drawings or CAD prints.
Managing the PF-05 Print Head
The PF-05 print head is an independent, user-replaceable component engineered to manage fine ink ejection across wide-format media formats. Experience Tip: The PF-05 print head operates separately from individual PFI-106 ink cartridges, so you only replace the printing mechanism when required without disturbing installed ink supplies.
Ordering PFI-106 Inks and Delivery
If you print high-coverage promotional graphics, stocking key accent colours like PFI-106R Red and PFI-106MBK Matte Black prevents unexpected job halts. Free delivery applies on all orders over $99, dispatched quickly from our warehouses in Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Review our returns policy for total order confidence when purchasing genuine Canon ink cartridges.
Pro Tip for PFI-106 Inks
Keep spare PFI-106MBK Matte Black and PFI-106R Red tanks on hand, as commercial poster prints with saturated red graphics or dense text blocks deplete these specialised shades much faster than standard cyan, magenta, or yellow tanks.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mix PFI-106MBK Matte Black and PFI-106BK Photo Black cartridges in the imagePROGRAF iPF6400SE?
Yes, the imagePROGRAF iPF6400SE uses both PFI-106MBK Matte Black and PFI-106BK Photo Black simultaneously in separate dedicated channels. The printer automatically selects Matte Black for uncoated or fine art media and Photo Black for glossy and satin media to ensure optimal ink adhesion and density.
Why does the imagePROGRAF iPF6400SE require a dedicated PFI-106R Red ink cartridge?
The PFI-106R Red ink cartridge expands the printable colour gamut beyond standard CMYK, delivering vibrant, true-to-life red shades required for point-of-sale retail displays, commercial banners, and high-impact poster artwork.
How do I know when the PF-05 print head needs replacing compared to individual PFI-106 ink tanks?
The PF-05 print head is a separate component from the PFI-106 ink tanks. Ink tanks supply the fluid, whereas the PF-05 handles ink ejection; you only replace the PF-05 when prompted by the printer system or when jetting performance degrades after extensive long-term output.
